A Special Holiday Message from the Harrisons

(L to R) Ralph, Jim and Myron Harrison

Wrapping up another wonderful year of service, the Harrison family would like to take a moment to wish you, our customers and the communities we serve, all the blessings of this Christmas season - as we celebrate this year in a way we could never have imagined.

Rocked this month by the raging Thomas Fire, our communities have just endured untold and unspeakable damage. Even within our Harrison family, homes were lost. But heading toward Christmas and the New Year, let us all try to focus on the fact that we have indeed endured. We have survived and we've begun to forge ahead. And that is cause to celebrate.

Within the Harrison family, we celebrate our amazing, hard-working, dedicated employees, who give it their all every day to make sure you have good service. These men and women showed up, ready to work, the first morning of the fire and every day since then. We are so proud of them and so very grateful for their helping hands.

We'd especially like to recognize the service of 43 of our employees who are celebrating milestone anniversaries with Harrison, including route manager David Sanchez, who's been with us for 35 years; as well as welder Jose Luis Gutierrez and drivers Juan Ambriz, Jose De Jesus Munoz and Jose S. Vargas, all four of whom celebrated 30 years with us in 2017. We appreciate the continued hard work and loyalty of these longtime employees, whom we will formally honor soon.

We also would like to recognize you, our customers, who give us hope and purpose. Providing you with excellent service is our mission all year round, and never more than now. We are more committed than ever to serving you well in 2018 - the 86th anniversary of our business - and well beyond. With our health and strong spirits intact, we look ahead with a revitalized resolve.

Harrison Industries began as a two-person operation in 1932, founded by our father E.J. and mother Myra. They instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and dedication to the community. And we continue to live and work by the same motto we've had from the beginning: "Service is everything."

This Christmas, we ask you and your families to pray for the safety and safe return of our military on active duty, regardless of where they are serving, on our U.S. bases and overseas. And we of course know you will keep the firefighters and others who protect us here at home in your thoughts and prayers - and wish them well and thanks for all they have done and are doing, in our time of greatest need.

We hope you enjoy good health and happiness this holiday season, in the new year and always.

Ralph, Jim & Myron Harrison

Recycle Your Christmas Tree for the Earth's Sake

Give the Earth a gift by recycling your Christmas tree. Harrison Industries and our franchise clients make it easy for you, so do the right thing.

All you need to do is remove the ornaments, hooks, lights, tinsel, bows, nails and tree stand. Cut the tree into four-foot sections and place in your tan yard waste barrel on your scheduled pickup day. Also, Harrison Industries now accepts flocked Christmas trees for recycling.

Trees we collect will be processed into various sizes of mulch. The material is used by our strategic partner Agromin to make several products that benefit our farmlands, orchards, nurseries and our own gardens.

As a special holiday feature, our customers may put out twice the amount of trash at no extra charge during the two weeks after Dec. 25. Please make sure the trash is in bags alongside the trash barrel. We also collect extra recyclables, but please make sure to flatten all boxes and place alongside the recycling barrel as well.

E.J. Harrison & Sons Sponsors a Son's Winning Soccer Team

We know a lot about winning teams, so we're extremely proud to have sponsored the championship 10U Division soccer team of Dylan Harrison, whose dad, Donnie Harrison, is our operations manager. The Thousand Oaks team made the championship game; here's a photo from Saturday, Dec. 2, with Donnie and Dylan front and center, after the happy team had qualified to play for the championship. Go team go!

Harrison Industries Gives Special Thanks to Some Special Employees!

These five employees are our longest-tenured celebrating milestone anniversaries this year. Our hats are off to them.

David Sanchez
Celebrating: 35 years
Position: Route supervisor
Home: Ventura
Family: Wife Helen and daughter Victoria, 31, and son David, 24

Congratulations to David Sanchez for 35 years of devoted service to Harrison Industries.

Growing up in west Ventura, David loved baseball. He played it throughout his childhood and into his first year of college. When he went to work at Harrison in 1982, he approached it with that same passion, giving it his all. Starting as a driver, he went on to become a route supervisor, now in charge of routes in Camarillo and Thousand Oaks.

As his career has grown, David and his wife, Helen, have happily raised their two children, Victoria, 31, and David, 24, in his hometown, and now they're spending time with their grandson, who turns 9 the day after Christmas - and through him, David is enjoying a return to his favorite pastime.

"I've come out of retirement to coach my grandson's baseball team, the Ventura Pirates," David said proudly. He's enjoyed every minute over the past two years as the team's coach, he said. "I like working with kids. I like keeping them off the streets."

And David has nothing but praise for his employer: "I've been very happy here at Harrison," he said. "I love the management, the family. It's family-owned and that's how it feels. They've been good to me and my family."

He's paid that forward, to his own employees. "I enjoy teaching my employees teamwork," he said. "I coach my employees as I would my baseball team."

Jose Luis Gutierrez

Celebrating: 30 years
Position: Welder
Home: Oxnard
Family: Wife Maria, two stepdaughters, 27 and 26, and a son, 13

Quote: "I've faced challenges, working my way from paint to lube to welding, which I've been doing now for 27 years. The challenges keep me happy and motivated. I like challenges, and I appreciate Harrison and the security of my job. We always have work to do."

Jose De Jesus Munoz

Celebrating: 30 years
Position: Residential driver
Home: Ventura
Family: Wife Irma and sons Jose, 36, and Miguel, 29

Quote: "I am very grateful for this past 30 years, and for this great company providing for my family. Thank you for everything."

Juan Ambriz*
Celebrating: 30 years
Position: Residential driver

Jose S. Vargas*

Celebrating: 30 years
Position: Residential driver

*Owing to the chaos in the wake of the Thomas Fire, we were not able to get comments from Juan and Jose. We sincerely thank them for their hard work and for their 30 years of service to Harrison Industries.

I lost my home of 43 years in this fire so I know the pain of loss, but I am not alone and we will all rebuild together.
