Happy Holidays to All From the Harrisons!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

At this special time of the year, we'd like to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks to our customers and the communities we serve. Our motto is "Moving toward Zero Waste," and we're working hard - with your help - to achieve this goal.

2012 was an eventful year for us. It marked our 80th year in business, and we celebrated the milestone by holding several events with the Chambers of Commerce in the cities we serve that highlighted several local Boys & Girls Clubs and nonprofits.

We look forward to serving you in 2013 and in the years to come by providing you with the highest level of service.

Our mother Myra, who shortly will turn 98 years young, joins us in wishing you the best this Holiday Season and a prosperous New Year!

Harrison Earns Ventura Environmental Excellence Award

Harrison Environmental Excellence award
Mayor Mike Tracy introduces Ralph Harrison and Nan Drake and congratulates E. J. Harrison & Sons for winning the City's Enviornmental Excellence Award.

Harrison Industries is proud to be the 2012 recipient of the City of Ventura's award for Environmental Excellence.

We received the recognition at the Ventura Chamber of Commerce's annual Poinsettia Awards luncheon Dec. 13 at the Ventura Beach Marriott. The Poinsettia Awards recognize the best in Business, Education and Government in the City of Ventura.

We were cited for the innovative recycling programs and the top-notch service we provide to our residential, commercial and industrial customers. It's by working closely with the staff in the City of Ventura's Environmental Sustainability Division - Ray Olson, Joe Yahner, Christine Wied and Courtney Lindberg - that Ventura has among the highest city recycling rates - 75 percent - in the state!

The Environmental Excellence recognition is most gratifying since "Moving toward Zero Waste" is our company motto.

Thanks, City of Ventura, for this wonderful honor!

Harrisons Welcome New City Councilmembers

thumbs up graphic The Harrison Family and I wish to congratulate the new members of the City Councils in the cities we serve: Wade Nomura and Fred Shaw in Carpinteria; Bill Little in Camarillo; Severo Lara in Ojai; Al Adam in Thousand Oaks; and Manuel Minjares, Douglas Tucker and Rick Neal in Fillmore.

We look forward to continuing to provide your constituents with trash and recycling service that is second to none.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. We're here to serve.

Remember to Recycle Your Christmas Tree

xmas tree graphic Harrison Industries urges you to do the right thing this Holiday Season and recycle your live Christmas tree.

All you need to do is remove the ornaments, hooks, lights, tinsel, bows, nails and tree stand. Cut the tree into four-foot sections and place in your yard waste barrel on your scheduled pickup day. Please remember, however, that flocked trees cannot be recycled.

Our strategic partner Agromin processes the material and turns it into more than 250 organic products that benefit our farmlands, orchards, nurseries and our own gardens.

As a special holiday feature, our customers may put out twice the amount of trash at no extra charge during the two weeks after December 25. Please make sure the trash is in bags alongside the trash bin. We also collect extra recyclables, but please make sure to flatten all boxes and place alongside the recycling bin as well.

Harrisons Love the Carpinteria Holiday Spirit Parade

The Harrisons love the holidays and they love a parade. What better way to enjoy both than to participate in the Carpinteria Holiday Spirit Parade on Dec. 8?  Carpinteria Christmas
                                          Parade 2012

In addition to providing this wonderful annual community event with trash and recycling collection services, Harrison Industries was in the parade itself because we have long believed community partnerships and participation are keys to our 80-year success.

Ted Harrison, who is in charge of our Paint and Body Shop, was behind the wheel of our parade entry - a liquefied natural gas truck decorated like a Christmas tree. Ted is the son of Harrison President Ralph Harrison and grandson of company co-founders E.J. and Myra Harrison.

Riding shotgun in the LNG truck was Ted's daughter Alexis - E.J. and Myra's great-granddaughter. Both enjoyed waving to the crowd lining the parade route that wended its way through downtown Carpinteria.

As a board member of the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce, I really enjoy working with the city's business community. They put on a great parade. It's a fun time for all!

Jingle Bell Jog Benefits Ventura Downtown Lions Club's Charities

Rita Rivera of Harrison Industries (left) and Mary and Robert Burns pose with Mr. Jingles, mascot of the Ventura Downtown Lions Club's Jingle Bell Jog.

Rita Rivera, a Customer Service representative for Harrison Industries, was among about 300 brave souls - young and old - to rise early on a cold and drizzly Sunday morning to participate in the first annual Jingle Bell Jog.

Harrison Industries was happy to help sponsor the 5-kilometer run/walk that was put on by the Ventura Downtown Lions Club and benefits the club's many charities.

Rita, who has been a Harrison employee for close to 25 years, was accompanied by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Burns.

Thank you, Rita, Mary, Robert and all who took part in this fun family event on Dec. 16. It was a big success, and here's hoping it becomes a holiday tradition for years to come!

Harrison-Sponsored Chamber Mixer Benefits Carpinteria B&GC

Carpinteria Mixer
(L to R) Lynn, George, Jim, Ralph and Myron Harrison along with Nan Drake celebrate Harrison's 80th anniversary at the Carpinteria Chamber's monthly mixer.

In celebration of our 80th anniversary, Harrison Industries sponsored the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce's monthly mixer on Nov. 28 at the Carpinteria Boys & Girls Club.

More than 100 people, including members of the City of Carpinteria government and business leaders, attended, and we were delighted to receive a proclamation from Rep. Lois Capps.

Attendees, many dressed in Christmas finery, also had the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping by pre-ordering holiday poinsettias. Proceeds went to the Carpinteria B&GC, and there's still time to order your own poinsettias for the holidays. Just call the Carpinteria B&GC at 566-3417.

Sam Hishneh of Domino's Pizza helped us provide the food for this festive event. Thanks, Sam!
